Child Support During Coronavirus
Child support is an important consideration for parents and the courts. It is provided to a parent to assist in the costs of food, shelter, clothing and general care of children. In fact, it is so important for your child’s wellbeing and feelings of security, where parents have the ability to pay support, California law won’t let parents agree to no or low support that does not adequately provide for the care of the children.
Having said that, it is a very difficult time for everyone. Current support orders remain in place while the COVID-19 or coronavirus has caused many parents to lose their jobs or reduced their incomes. Unpaid support continues to build or accrue.
Keep these thoughts in mind if you are one of the working parents who receives support from the other who is out of work and expected to continue to pay support. If you can reach an agreement only to last during these difficult times, make sure both sign it and file it with the court.
